| 8401 | https://www.lib.ncku.edu.tw/ne... | NCKU-National Cheng Kung University Library | (以下為國立成功大學圖書館的網頁內容) Notice of Library Space Renovation The National Cheng Kung University Library is undertaking the third phase of its space renovation project to provide a more diverse and flexible environment for learning and academic exchange. This phase primarily focuses on the 4th and 5th floors. In an effort to create more versatile reading areas, the long-standing Wang Wei‑Cheng Book Donation Area has been relocated and reconfigured. This adjustment is intended to optimize space utilization and increase the availability of new and varied seating options to accommodate students’ diverse reading preferences better. The renovation was initially scheduled for the summer break. However, construction has been rescheduled for the current semester due to delays caused by design reviews, administrative procedures, and emergency repairs necessitated by typhoon‑related damage. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Construction Details: • Scope of Work: 4th Floor West Reading Area, Photocopy Room, Atrium, and 5th Floor Study Carrels • Start Date: October 1, 2025 • Demolition Begins: October 2, 2025 • Estimated Duration: Approximately one month • Impact: During construction, significant noise is expected on the 3rd to 5th floors. Due to the library’s open atrium and high‑ceiling design, sound may be further amplified. Noise‑reduction measures have been implemented to minimize disruption, including closing fire doors and rolling shutters. Nevertheless, complete sound insulation may not be possible, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding. Additional Support: • Earplugs are available for self‑service at the 1st Floor Self‑Service and the 4th Floor Quiet Reading areas. • Users are encouraged to utilize quieter areas on lower floors, or visit the Medical Library, the KnowLEDGE, or the Future Venue during the renovation period. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to enhance the library environment. We look forward to a renewed, more comfortable, user‑friendly library space. This procedure will also be helpful to assure library’s service quality and enhance patrons’ satisfaction. Handling of fact‑to‑face complaints:Encountering with a reader’s fact‑to‑face complaint, the librarian should first confirm the reader’s real demand. If the reader’s request is part of the business responsibility, the librarian should resolve and reply on‑the‑spot. If the request is beyond the business scope, the librarian should guide the reader to the specialised response division and let the librarian in charge understand the whole condition and continue the subsequent handling. If it needs a longer time to deal with readers’ complaints or the reader is passionate, librarians should lead the reader to another proper place in case it bothers other readers. If the frontline librarian cannot handle the complaint, the manager of the division should come forward and take over the affair. If the complaint is not resolved after the talk, the reader can fill out the NCKU Library Reader Suggestion Sheet and the relevant divisions will have a further discussion and provide a proper resolution. Handling of telephone complaints:As receiving readers’ complaints on the phone, the librarian should first confirm the reader’s real demand. If the reader’s request is part of the business responsibility, the librarian should resolve and reply immediately. If the request is beyond the business scope, the librarian should inform the reader of the extension of the response division or librarian and then transfer the phone. If possible, don’t transfer the phone too many times and don’t let the reader wait on the phone for a long time. Handling of complaints (via letters, e‑mails, BBS and Web messages and other paper forms):Each division should assign at least one librarian to check all the complaint resources above and reply to readers within three days. Academic publishers such as Elsevier, Springer, Wiley and Nature Publishing Group, commercial companies including Thomson Reuters, academic societies and funding bodies are also joined as members. The short video “What is ORCID? ”: https://vimeo.com/97150912 The benefits of ORCID For individuals: The ORCID provides a unique identifier for individuals to use with their name as they engage in research activities; The ORCID can solve the problem such as different peoples with the same name; Currently many publishers, such as Nature, Elsevier, PLOS, Springer already used ORCID in their manuscript; The bibliographical databases such as Web of Science and Scopus now adopt the ORCID as a kind of identifier of the authors, using the unique ids, the databases can provide author bibliographic information more precisely; Every ORCID is linked to an online profile where authors can update their latest contact details, e.g. http://orcid.org/(ORCID ID), using ORCID online profile makes the researcher’s information more visible; The ORCID provides each researcher with an updated ‘digital curriculum vitae’ and with ORCID the research can complete their publication lists more easily by linking the bibliographic databases. For organizations: ORCID organizational member can use the open-access ORCID database to build their own institutional services such as human resource system and academic service system, ORCID can reduce the time-consuming process of maintaining up-to-date records; Using ORCID records, research organization can build the institutional “Scholar Hub” or “Academic Hub” to demonstrate and facilitates the researches and scholarly activities. Register and Permit NCKU for further use: NCKU has become an ORCID organizational member form Feb. 2016. We (the NCKU library) invite you to register for an ORCID id and permit NCKU for further use, including maintaining your publication lists, integrating ORCID records to institutional repository system and building the school academic hub and so on.
